Massive child not fitting on potty

Hello,

My son is 2 years 9 months and he was a dream to potty train. No accidents after day two and dry through the night. However he does not like the toilet at all, just the potty.

He is kind of very wide so he doesn't really fit on the potty and his willy always ends up out front, inevitability he gets wee on the floor. Any ideas for a potty that is bigger than usual? They all seem so small. I have the steps for the toilet, he hates them. Any ideas?

I thought of taking the potty away and then he would be forced to use the toilet but I don't want to upset him 2 months in and then he regresses....

We have got one of the summer infant my size potty toilets, my nearly 4 year old still uses it sometimes with no problems, even though he's fine on the normal toilet.

@morningcuppatea thanks so much for the suggestion, are those hard to clean out?

We got a travel potty for our boy who had the same issue, he loved it its like an elephant and they wee into the trunk stood up.

Then when he got a bit bigger step and stand up wees into toilet.

@mumtoallboys it's not too bad, you lift the lid up and take the inside bit out to clean so that's as easy as any potty and just a wipe over the rest of it. Then every so often I put the whole thing in the bath and give it a good clean.

I hated the padded seat thing you pop on the toilet seat as it always leaked, so we got a 'family' toilet seat, it's fab. My 22kg 4 year old uses it so should be big enough for your lo. Not this exact one but like this -

I have the my size potty too. My son is bigger than most 4 year olds and he uses it fine. Ive also taught him to hold his willy to make sure its pointing into potty.

When I clicked on this thread title I half expected it to be a post about someone’s idiot husband.

Baby bjorn potty chair. My sons massive for his age and he fits in it. A normal cheap one there'd be no chance. More expensive but you want them to be comfortable anyway!Smile

Are you getting his willy tucked in? You may find he doesn’t actually need a bigger potty.

CosyQueen · 07/12/2020 09:01

We had the same problem, when our DS son sat down his Willy wouldn’t fit in the potty so he would end up weeing on the floor. We weren’t able to find a bigger alternative but he/we found out that if he sat on the potty backwards (with the high back bit in front of his willy) then he was actually comfier and the wee goes into the potty- might be worth a try!

Hi my 3 are all giants and the only potty we found that they could sit comfortably on was this one from IKEA, all normal size ones were too small for them.
