Witholding on Movicol 2.5yrs

Hello,
My son has been witholding stool since April (6months) he was passing VERY large play doh like stool every 4/5 days and being very agitated and fretful for the days leading to the movement. Once he had been he was his normal happy playful self for 24hours until the feeling came again.
He has been on Movicol paediatric for 2 weeks, only building up to 4 sachets for the first time yesterday. He has been passing porridge like stools with no evidence of impaction (hard crumby bits).

My question is. Would I have seen evidence of impaction by now? Do I need to aim for the watery poo to ensure there is no impaction? The prescribing dr never mentioned impaction but she wasnt very aware (self confession) of how serious the condition could be. But looking at the eric website its best to check. He has been happily passing 5/6 stools daily. They have been free from hard lumps, watery but still having some substance to them. Can I start reducing the dose with these stools being clear and him passing pain free? Or would anyone with experice advise to get to the watery stage "just incase" I hate having him in nappies as he loves his undies and has been doing really well potty training and is even dry at night. I dont want to prolong this unnecessarily.

I'm really keen to get some hands on advice from any experices you've had. Thank you for reading.
