My DS who was 3 in June, will not poo anymore.

We started potty training about 5 weeks ago and he got it straight away for wees but would only poo in a nappy, no problem we put one on and away he went happily.

But now he just will not go in a nappy, on the toilet (has a toddler seat) or on the potty. He says he needs to go but he just won’t let it come out, a few times he’s stopped mid poo and we’ve just cleaned him up

.. please help I’m worried that he will end up completed blocked up and in pain. We’ve tried bribery, praise, Pooland app but nothing works. He has been on movical for months so I’m sure he isn’t constipated because when he does go it is soft, he just has super control not to go.

Any suggestion would be welcome

I think you need to go back to the GP

If it was me I’d can the nappies completely, stop the rewards and asking- go right back to beginning. Bare bottom, fill him with roughage and then sit him on the toilet with a book or iPad and let him know to poo and once done you can: go to the park, shop etc....and then get on with what you are doing close by, don’t watch him.

I have been back to the gp, they’ve said just let him get on with it, which we’ve been trying to do but still no success.

I’ve rang the health visitor for ideas, spoke to the Eric helpline, upped his movical even though the poo was already soft when he does go.

Tried the iPad, my phone even got him to blow bubbles whilst sat on the toilet as I read that stops them being able to withhold it but it’s like he’s terrified of letting it out anywhere.

Usually after 3 or 4 days he can’t hold it any longer so he runs around the house in a panic trying to stop it

Not to sound cruel but a child’s laxative ?

Idontwant2 · 30/08/2020 16:27

I upped his dose of movical from 1 to 2 sachets a day because 1 makes the poo soft but I was hoping 2 a day would mean he wouldn’t be able to hold it.

It’s worked in the sense that he’s not holding it as well as before because it’s made it really loose but he still isn’t clearing it all at once because it’s taking a few nappies a day until he stops hopping around trying to stop it.

He returns to pre school next week so no idea how this will work out 😩 training my DD was a breeze compared to this
