How to know when they're ready

My little boy is 18 months old. How do you know when it's time to start potty training? I don't think he's ready yet as I would guess he's a little young? Also he doesn't tell me when he is having a wee or poo. He's only just staring to try talk. I just wondered how you know when it's time to start.

I got a potty and waited until dd showed an interest. She was about 2 and a half

We have an 18 month old too. I’m just going to wait until he’s clearly showing an interest. Over the past week or so he’s started getting a nappy and the wipes and laying down when he poops and if we ask if he’s pooped he says/signs yes. He currently doesn’t do anything for wee. I’m taking it as a good sign but I know we’re not there yet

That sounds like a good sign. If I ask my little boy if he's had a poo he shakes his head and does a runner haha
