So it's kind of going well, I'd say 80% of wees on the potty. But there's so many of them!
He's doing about about 14 wees a day. He's self initiating, in that he's telling me he needs a wee about half the time he makes the potty and I'm telling him to go the rest of the time.

Wees are small and seem to be getting more frequent if anything! I've read that this is a sign of poor bladder control and therefore he's not ready.
However, given that he knows when he's weeing, needs to wee and has just weed and he's 2.5 I think he's ready.

Not sure how to help him hang on and do bigger wees less often?

Do you think the chocolate button rewards are counter productive and he's getting more chocolate buttons this way?

Any experience or advice greatly appreciated. BTW we are in pull ups and we will be moving to cotton pants as soon as this pack runs out.

Change the reward system- instead of a wee in the potty= chocolate button, dry pants for X time, eg every hour on the hour =chocolate button.

I think he's a clever boy and has worked out that every time he can squeeze a wee out he gets a button. Annoying for you, but will stand him in good stead for the future. Grin

Thanks everyone. We were out yesterday at the park and he did three wees and no choc buttons as didn't have any. But it's definitely in his head as he says choc button each time. Like the idea for staying dry, hopefully he will have the capacity to understand the reward?! I guess that's the issue. The other one I was thinking was rewarding for big wees and not little ones?

I think understanding that he gets a reward for a big wee but not small is not going to make much sense to him. I think PPs idea of a reward for dry pants makes more sense.

Thank you @FrugiFan we've done that and believe it or not it seems to be working. Excellent idea @BobbyTheVet thank you

@Lowprofilename thanks so much, I just realised it was your initial idea and I didn't give you any credit. ☺️
