How do I get him to tell me?!

My little boy is 2 years and 9 months old and we have been attempting to potty train for a few weeks now however he doesn't seem to be aware of telling me he needs to go.

Obviously I bring him to the bathroom on spaced out intervals and all will be fine for pees but he doesn't do number twos until it's too late and he has soiled himself. When I try and explain to get him to try and tell me he will agree and say ok mummy but next time the same happens again 🙈

What do I do? Should I wait for another few weeks and hope he will eventually get it or do I persevere and try something to see if it helps? I'm concerned he should at least be day trained by now 😬

Thanks guys :)

It took us several months before dd2 would tell us (longer with dd1 but potty training her was a disaster zone) then suddenly it clicked. Just took her at regular times in the day like before dinner and before leaving the house.

Tbf she was better with poos. We had poo in pants for a couple of months with dd1 and as she was older got her involved with taking off her clothes etc. It's a totally different skill so don't expect it to click at the same time.

Thanks for your reply... he too is a nightmare with poos. Just keeps soiling and then saying I'll tell you next time but doesn't so we just keep going back to square one.

I don't want to pressure him if he isn't ready but also don't want to give up 🤷‍♀️ it's just so hard to know

Do you know roughly when he goes ie. morning/ after lunch etc?
Can you watch the a tell tale sign, like standing still?
I would try and work our either of the above and sit him on a potty with a tablet or the tv and leave him until he poos- maybe feed him fruit or veg beforehand. He needs to get used to doing number 2s on the potty and then associate telling you.
