Purposely using pull up

My 5 year old step son is purposely using his pull up to wee in a morning instead of getting up to use the toilet, anyone else experienced this or have any advice how to encourage him not to Smile

Does he need a pull up on overnight?

How do you know he is weeing in it in the morning and not overnight/while he's asleep?

I should have explained a little bit better! Yes I think he does still need a pull up over night, although now I’m not 100% sure. We have had conversations about waking up to go to the toilet etc but I fully understand he may just not be ready yet.
I found out he’s purposely using his pull up for a wee when he was with us this week, in a morning we have encouraged him to get up, get dressed, wee in the toilet and brush his teeth. He always updates me on the progress of his routine and said to me something along the lines of “I’ve even gone for a small wee in the toilet after weeing in my nappy” so we had a chat and he said how he will wee in the pull up when he’s awake

If he's quite chatty about it, I'd just explain to him why he shouldn't and go from there. It's probably quite hard to understand that he has to wear a nappy, but shouldn't actually use it!

Stop the overnight nappy.

I would get rid of the pull ups. You could always put a disposable absorbent pad under his sheet if you are worried about him bed wetting overnight.

No advice, but my 4 year old daughter is the same. I'm fairly certain she doesn't need it overnight but she will not sleep unless she has a pull up on.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I really appreciate it. Will have a chat without him about trying without this week and update

For my little boy we got rid of the pull up- for the same reasons and bought some washable bed mats from amazon. Then if there was ever an accident you can just remove the mat and the bed is dry so it doesn't disturb their sleep. Eventually he started to be dry all night- was nearer to six though.

We got rid of the pull ups once we figured out that they were weeing in them first thing and they started getting out of bed to go for a wee.
