Screaming at the loo....

My 3.5yo has had a difficult time with potty training.

We have tried twice before but each time he holds on, screams and cries "no toilet, no toilet" when it's suggested he needs the loo.

I have two older children so lockdown seems perfect time to try again. We have no set timetable - no school runs. Plus he starts school himself in September so I really must crack it.

We've had 4 days of bare bum. Again - screaming / holding on as long as possible. Finding a pull up and putting it on to do a poo.

I've tried ignoring the situation today. No suggesting at all that he might need the loo. But still no progress. One accident at lunchtime. Then holding on until the nighttime nappy went on at 6.30pm then I had to change him within 30 mins of him going to bed as he came out having done a poo and the nappy was completely sodden. It's size 7 so must have done a massive wee.

Any advice on next steps?

Is he on the potty or the toilet? Do you have one of those toilet seats with a child size inside it? Maybe he’s scared of falling in

@wonderrotunda the toilet - with a seat on it and a little step. It's the idea he seems to hate. If I get him there, he'll sit on and push himself into the right position. Then he sort-of pushes his willy down as if stopping himself urinating! Then says "no" and gets off.

He's a big lad - 19kg - so a potty seems ridiculous. And when I did get it out, he just says no and puts it back in the cupboard.

Have you tried a couple of Cheerios in the loo so he can try to wee into the little hole? To make it fun? And so he learns to aim? Wouldn’t work so well for a poo though! Do you show him that you flush the nappy poo down the toilet...might help him make the connection that that’s where it’s supposed to go. Does he see the rest of the family use the loo so he knows it’s a big boy thing to do?
This is the loo seat style...so it looks grown up but children feel safe...if he’s getting into position it sounds as though he feels secure though
