Toilet trained but pooping in nappy...

...while asleep! What to do? He will be 3 soon and he has been toilet trained for wees for a week now (hooray ) no wee accidents whatsover, everythings great on that side. BUT he seems to now only pooping at night time when he is proper asleep and has a nappy on. What should we do and how to make him poop before bedtime and on a toilet? Thanks

It's pretty common for them to do this. Give him time, he'll get there

Often toddlers are a bit scared to poop in a toilet. I remember my own DS completely freaking out when he first accidently did one in the potty and it took quite a bit of persistence to get him to go again. Maybe he's holding up his poos until he's wearing that Nappy again.
Just give him time. There's no rush. Although I would recommend making sure he stays fairly loose and regular.

Both mine did this - and my little brother! Very common. No advice really except just encourage/bribe him to do it in the toilet.

I would say he is holding it until he falls asleep. So since he toilet trained to wee he only poos at night when sleeping and I just change his nappy - I dont think he realises it as he stays asleep during the process lol
If he was going during the day it would be easier to at least try the toilet but no I guess I have to just wait until he is older...

He will get there. There'll come a day when he just can't help but go in the day and eventually he'll l realise that actually it is better than doing it in a nappy. There really is no rush. Please don't stress yourself out about it. It's so early in the potty training process aswell, time is all that's needed I would think.

Is he dry in the night? You could get rid of nappies altogether. Might mean you have a couple of night accidents (make sure he’s wearing pants!) but might remove that safety blanket of the nappy.

But whatever you do you will get there eventually. My son was terrified of going for a poo in the toilet, we tried everything but eventually he just seemed to get over it by himself (we did drop the nighttime nappy though because he was doing the same time)

Thank you all. No he is not completely dry at night time (sometimes he is but not all the time). I will try dropping nappy later this month (maybe when we run out of nappies lol) But thank you all you are all very lovely with your supportive comments x
