We've taken my 4.5 yr old DS out of pull ups at night as they're often dry and he was keen to ditch them. We've reduced fluid intake in the evening, with the last drink being at dinner, a wee immediately before lights out and we wake him for a wee at 10. He is awake for it, although doesn't remember it. He seems to be a pattern of being dry for two nights with this system but then wetting around 4am on the third night. I'm interested in people's experience of this. Can we assume that he'll gradually get more reliable and have more dry nights, or is it just luck of the draw each night, which is what it feels like at the moment? Any insights welcome.

Maybe he just isn't ready to be dry reliably overnight

I’m so interested in nighttime advice too, DD is just over 4 and day trained by 2.5, just assumed she’d naturally become dry overnight but it’s never happened and another baby along the way has made us reluctant to start any process that involves hard work at night! Her nappies are always wet, to varying degrees, but she’s never had a dry night so you’re likely closer to success than we are.

You cany really train for night time dryness. Its to do with a hormone that suppresses urine overnight and the ability to wake when the bladder is full. My 2 just became dry by themselves

At this age it will be hit and miss anyway.

If he’s dry most nights best leave the Pull-Ups off but an absorbent top sheet will mean you don’t have to strip the whole bed.

There are both washable and disposable “bed mats” available.
