Age to start potty training?

DS is 22mo. I've been thinking about potty training him however he's not showing signs of being ready. I will leave it for a couple of months. I don't want to go through the stress of it yet.
DD was out of nappies by the age of 3 just before she started nursery. I did get a lot of hassle from close ones that I should've started her sooner.

Out of curiosity, what age did you start potty training your DC?

DS1 - 25 months - probably a bit too early in hindsight
DD - also around 25 months but she was definitely ready
DS2 - 2 yrs 8 months - he could have left it later but I was desperate to be nappy free and couldn't wait any longer!

My three boys were all potty trained & reliably dry during the day by the age of two & a half.

That was 20 years or so ago and from what I read on here it would be considered very early these days, but it was normal then.

Definitely wait till he’s ready, they get it so quickly when they are.

Dd was 26 months and got it in 2 days. I spent the 2 days at home with her and then she went into nursery as normal and has never had an accident. Glad I waited because it’s been the easiest part of parenting so far weirdly!

DS- 20ish months. Was day trained by age 2

Ds did show signs he was ready, I didn't just do it for the hell of it.

What signs particularly do you look for? Dd is just 2 and says wee wee and points at the potty at nursery but isnt very verbal and I wonder how she would communicate that she needs to go. She can also tell us when she's done a poo but will often say no if we ask. No idea if she knows it's going to happen.

@Bobbiepin I waited until dd was going long stretches with a dry nappy, when she could tell me she’d done a wee/poo, she went to hide for a poo and trying to take her nappy off when soiled. She didn’t start telling me before she needed a wee until we started potty training. I just used to prompt her for a few weeks to remind her if she needed to. She now tells me every time and I don’t ask anymore (she’s 2yrs 10 months).

We started just before 2 but couldn't commit to being in the house long enougj and he wasn't fussed. Started again in summer hols from nursery as home for a few days. He was 2 and 8 months and it was so much easier. We never had any accidents and done in 1 day, that includes naps and overnight immediately. Going to wait until similar age with next one as it's much easier when older.

A bit like Drama all kids were toilet trained by just after 2...

I'm aware by Mumsnet standards it would be considered child abuse to start so early these days but school nursery wouldn't accept them if they weren't toilet trained back then so most kids I know were the same.

22 months using the oh crap book... would've done 20m but we were expecting her sibling the following month and didn't want her to regress. She'd have been fine! It was a good age because she didn't have too much of an opinion about it a bit feistier now at 3! Will do dc2 next summer at same age.

My son is 2.5 and still showing no signs at all, I’d love to have him trained by time baby 2 arrives but even just putting the potty out seems to make him cross
