Bought that potty training in a week book and it says no nappies , just knickers , except naps. After a couple of accidents and a couple of weeing successes (which horrified her?) my daughter cried hysterically to be put in a nappy. So we did as we were knackered. Now what? I don't know how I will get her in knickers tomorrow!

For us the first day was a nightmare, second was better and by lunchtime on the third day she was dry and fully potty trained.

The first section of the book, about questions. Can your DC do all these things yet?

Otherwise, I did everything to the book and it really worked.

How old is she? I'd forget about it and try again when she is ready.

She is 3 in two months and could do those things in the book

Bin the book. Wait until she's psychologically ready (it doesn't sound like she is) and be reassured that when she is you'll likely have no accidents 😃 Mum of 8 ☺️

Throw it away. Get pull ups. My dcs were ready to try for a wee on the potty about an hour after drinking. Sit for up to 10-15 minutes. I gave them 1 chocolate button for a wee, 2 for a poo. I also made up a song. I only gave up the pull ups when dry all day for 2/3 days. This wasn't the case for ds1 as I'd been told by friends to let him wander around with no pants or trousers and he'd naturally not go. He did and he was really upset about it. This scared him dry. But both my dcs were dry at night first when they were about two. But ds1 I potty trained three times and wasn't dry until he was 3.

Bin the bloody book! She hasn’t read it!

Any consolation- my son was just shy of third birthday and first day did nothing but wet himself; second day we were about 50:50 and then day three we had one accident.

Aside from a nightmare two days a week later he’s been accident free for nearly three weeks and he’s been back at his childminders and managed it too. Follow your child’s lead - reward chart helped us.

Try again following the book. Honestly, it was amazing for us. The first day was awful. But the second was loads better. I tried a few months before trying to do it myself. Abandoned the idea, and then bought the book and I was so amazed. I needed the help, I had no idea how to potty train.

I'd wait til she's a bit older, doesn't sound like she's ready. The trouble with those books is the kids haven't read them! And they don't really explain what to do if your child doesn't behave as expected...

She started nursery about six weeks ago and is usually weary of going. She goes again next Wednesday for half day and I'm worried she will be mortified if she has an accident. She is very shy

I also could not get her to sit on the potty for 5-10 mins even though she was enthusiastic at first. What toddler can do that every 15 minutes???

I didn’t read a book but just went ‘cold turkey’ on the nappies for my dcs. Day 1: wee every where. Day 2: still wee everywhere (me: tears everywhere). Day 3: a few weeks on the floor most in the potty. Day 4: victory.
Be strong. IMO pull ups are confusing and a bit grim, once you can see in a potty why would you want to wear a nappy?
Tips: sticker on potty for each wee, then you can see them build up. Sit on potty with tv/tablet/story after meals etc. Good luck!

I don’t remember how frequently the potty sitting happened.

I normally agree with the other posters about ditching the book, but having read the book and followed the book, I can say it worked for me in three days.

Update: We had only accidents yesterday despite wanting to sit in the potty all the time (as she hated the accidents). We had no poo yesterday or today yet but today several successes in the morning with some mess when not getting there in time. So we left the house and went to the park! It felt such a major deal and we went knowing she was definitely done weeing. We have completely laid off today, she is wearing her leggings inside and we have just asked her if she wanted to sit on the potty a couple of times. She isn't drinking much though and the potty is right near us. I don't know how she rill be when she has nursery on Wednesday.

I use this method and joke that I am queen of potty training. Potty trained my 4 darling children and a friends who had come to stay for a week 😂 Littlest DSD was scared of the potty and not keen. I used it too for the day and ate a sweet whenever I did, and gave her a sweet too! So she started to get excited about me going on there. Then I gave her a sweet for even sitting on it without being upset. Then moved on to sweets only when she did a wee x

Wow! You even potty train other children! I really hope she will do a poo soon but tends to do it near bed time when we have out nappy on. I hope she's not holding it TMI sorry.

So do you start to move the potty nearer the loo as they get used it? I think she isn't good at knowing when she needs to wee yet as she kept sitting there for ages. She has no interest in it now so don't know if she will get to it in time '

Has she got a favourite teddy? I let "teddy" sit on the potty where he did a "wee" (slyly tips bit of water into potty) and we clapped and praised teddy for being so good weeing in the potty.

Goldensummer that's a great tip. No poos for two days yet so can try him doing a poo first

Put the nappy in the potty for poos. Makes it more familiar.

We gave up on day 4 as my daughter was refusing to eat or drink as she knew it would make her need potty. She also wouldn't poo in the potty and held it for those three days!
