Potty training under 2 how am I doing??

Started potty training my 21 month old dd this week I have decided to do more of a slow approach as dd is very independent and stubborn and I don't think a 1 week approach would work for her at all.

I've been putting her on the toilet after the bath for about a month now and she started to go for a wee and poo last week so decided to go for it this week.

Put knickers on her with a pull up over it so she feels wet but with less mess. Been taking her on regular trips to the loo and she was going about 60-70% of the time and saying wee wee and poo poo up until yesterday afternoon. We went the doctors and a friends house this week and she went for a wee there too.

Not pooed in knickers once only toilet.

Flat out shouting NO! Today When I ask if she needs to go and going in her knickers so hasn't went once today but it is only 10am 😂 trying not to push too much

How am I doing? I know it's early but I'm due with dd2 in 4 weeks and I want to just give it a go while I'm off. If she's not ready I'll try again in Nov when baba is 8 weeks

I'm a firm believer in the "just go for it" approach. With DS we just stopped using nappies one day.
If she will go some of the time, it sounds like she gets it. DS still had days where he would refuse to go in the potty but he didn't like the feeling of being wet.

No not read the oh crap book I'll look into it thank you. I know I have been thinking about I just bite the bullet but gonna just do another week of pull ups over knickers and then go for it. I'm 8 months pregnant so just gonna see how she's getting on if not I'll just put her back in nappies and try again in a couple of months maybe

Definitely read Oh Crap. I'd also take the knickers off and leave her bare bottomed at home for the first day or so, then dresses or loose trousers but no underwear.

The NO thing is normal I think. They find it exciting for the first couple of days and then it loses its novelty! I too would take off the pull up and go for it but it's up to you OP.

I’d stop. She’ll probably regress when the baby comes anyway and I reckon it would be much more difficult for you if you think she’s out of nappies and then she suddenly isn’t rather than just carrying on for a while until she’s readier. Nappies are a million times easier than a semi reliable loo user anyway.

Thanks @BertrandRussell I have thought is it the right time with the new arrival but she is asking to go so seems silly not to try. I am expecting her to regress when the baby comes in probably more areas than 1 but my husband is off/working from home the first month

Took a break yesterday afternoon as she went to MIL for a few hours. She happily went the loo last night and today she's like a new person has been dry all day going happily. I was probably doing her head in asking too much trying not to ask as much today. Still using pull ups over knickers but I'm not going anywhere tue-thu this week so will do nappy off time then and let you all know how it goes.
