Out and about in week 1... taking potty along?

So, I've been potty training for 4 days. Seems to be going well so far. I've been able to stay at home, leave DD bottomless and follow her around with the potty.

What I'm wondering is: what do people do when going out and about in these early days in terms of bringing the potty along??

Today we ventured into town to have some fun and run some errands. I brought the potty with me in my rucksack and ended up having to bust it out in the pharmacy when DD suddenly shouted "wee wee". I was quietly proud of her this Grin but she was literally sat there on the potty in the middle of the pharmacy... and then I was stuck there holding a potty full of wee. I ended up chucking it out the back door, giving the potty a hasty wipe and stuffing it back in my bag. No one in the pharmacy said anything but I'm sure this scene will have offended some people!!

Please tell me if you have a better strategy.

Nah that's just nasty. You've got no idea who's around and your child's naked from waist down doing their business in public. Put her in pull ups when your out.

Don't do that it's incredibly confusing for them and may set your progress back.

If you have to venture out until things get a bit more reliable plan as shorter trip as possible, go to the toilet before leaving, again when you get there if you can and take plenty of spare knickers and leggings. If you need to go in the car you can use a puppy training pad to protect the car seat.

Get a carry potty - they are leak proof so you can just close it up and take to the nearest loo or whatever to empty it then :)

That's pretty grim... No suggestions though. I didn't take my ds out til he was able to hold on a bit but I suspect he may have been a bit older.

Thanks I will try to plan better and maybe look into more discreet travel potties. It's a tricky stage but hopefully short lived!

Not a clue how many minutes/seconds notice she gives but a lot of places will let you into the staff loo if your asking for a small child.

That pee in the chemist might not just be pee next time.. also don’t chuck it into the street Envy

I remember someone had a toddler crap in their potty in the middle of a cafe.. not in the toilet because they couldn’t wait that long (walk-door-loo)

Get a pottete they are amazing and so much more compact than those bee thing people carry around.

Toilet before leaving the house, toilet when arrived and that buys a bit of time, if we're out for a while regular toilet stops no matter how inconvenient

I would just make sure they go for a wee before. I think the portable potties are a bit gross and confusing for the child. I remember a few in my nct group used them and when we'd go out, the poor babies would be plonked on the potty in the middle of anywhere to try for a poo Shock

Oh my god peeing on a potty in middle of the pharmacy is pretty disgusting.

You either don't take her places, deal with the fact she might have accident or teach her to wait until you get to the toilet.

Jeez and people say the kid has to be ready for potty training, honestly the parents have to be too and you clearly aren't if you think that it is acceptable.

at the minimum run out into the street and find a quiet spot for the potty. never just in a shop.

but ideally they need to be able to hold it a little while.

Totally unacceptable to whip a potty out in public like that. I'm surprised the staff didn't have a word with you. Your dd may not be ready to hold it for a while and if not then don't bring her out and about until she can manage to. Make sure she goes before leaving the house. Maybe go for coffe while out and make sure she goes again.

Gordon Bennett. I have never in my entire life seen a child on a potty in a store. Gross. I don't 'troll hunt' but have a funny feeling this is not real.

If you really must do this, op, remember anyone can use the loo in McDonalds, without buying good, you could take your child there and put her on the potty in a cubicle. Other shops have loos too - not Boots unfortunately.
