Bed wetting HELP PLEASE

newmumwithquestions · 20/08/2019 22:54

DD is 4 in December and has been potty trained for 1.5 years. She was ridiculously easy to do so - told me one day she didn’t want to wear nappies and used the toilet from then on. She was also dry at night from that moment on so after 1 week I took her night time nappies away.
She’s hardly ever had an accident in the day and never at night, Until about a month ago when she started wetting the bed every 4-5 ish days.
I was away on a long work trip when this started, so maybe she was unsettled (we are very close) but she seemed fine emotionally when I got back. Also it’s continuing now I’m back.

We get her to have a wee just before bed. She doesn’t get a drink just before bed. The last few days i’ve been lifting her when I go to bed and asking her to do a wee to see if that helps. She has produced a wee on demand but it’s only been a small wee. Then tonight I went to lift her and she’s wet the bed again. So that’s within 2 hours of her going down.

What do we do? I can’t keep up with washing!

Is it a really bad idea to put her back in nappies? I don’t want to after 1.5 years but not sure what to try!

She has also complained of soreness around her vulva area so about a month ago the doctor tested her urine ph (and maybe other things - I wasn’t there) and it was normal. This was just before the bed wetting started. Not sure how to read that as if it was the start of a uti I think the doctor should have picked it up?

Any advice?
Thankyou!

Probably not the best placed to help with this but I'd start by going back to the drs but also if she's 4 I'd wonder if she is anxious about starting school? X

Thanks Susie. She’s 4 in December so not starting school until next year. Her sister starts this year so that’s a change as they’ll be together less but she seems ok emotionally about it.
I have asked if there’s anything worrying her and she has said she doesn’t like the dark so we’re leaving a small light on / the door ajar.

Anyone else? Just to add; it seems to be getting more frequent. 3 times in the last week.

Are you sure she doesn't have a vaginal or bladder infection. Both can cause bed wetting.

newmumwithquestions · 21/08/2019 07:15

I’m not sure, no. But not sure how to tell. She did complain of a stingy wee once a few days ago but says it has been fine since.

Bring her back to the gp and ask them to specifically check for that.

I would take her to the doctors to check for a urine infection. I’d also treat her for worms, just in case that is causing the soreness.
I’d then put her in pull ups at night and completely ignore the situation for a month just in case it’s stress/worry related.
Then when she’s settled at school at nothing else is going on I’d ask her if she was ready to try nights again.
Incidentally, have you tried making a ‘lasagne’ bed where you layer sheets and waterproof protectors - either waterproof sheets or bed mats. Then if the bed is wet you just strip a layer off and put her back. Much easier in the middle of the night!
