Potty training dilemma

So, my son is three is September and still in nappies. I'm 30 weeks pregnant and think I owe it to him and myself to get him trained asap. We have been having alot of work done in our house which is dragging out us starting but we are getting our house back (more or less) on Friday so I have just finished reading the in crap potty training book and I think I'm ready.!
Catch is I have to travel for a family commitment the next Sunday. Flight and car journey and just me and son going. It's only until Tuesday but I am panicking that we won't be ready!
If i delay it, it will be weeks before we have another chance.
Help! My gut feeling is we just bite the bullet and get started... anyone immediately think this is a terrible idea?!
Advice from veterans welcomed.

i would start. you can always get him a pair of these, which are pants that look like regular underpants, so wont be sending the wrong message, but are still absorbent in case of accidents. best of luck!
