We are on day 3 of potty training. Son is 22 months. He is basically there with poo - asks to do it on the potty and consistently gets it right. Never had a poo accident. But he has never told us before he needs to do a wee. We've had 2 accidents each day and 4 or 5 wees on the potty. He can be a bit resistant to sitting even when he needs to go but tonight I said to him "do you need the potty?" And he willingly walked over to it and went for a wee straight away. As he is young I am mindful that we might be rushing it a bit- lots of people have said so. Are we on the right track? Or does the fact that he doesn't tell us he needs a wee mean it is just doomed to fail?

Yes you are on the right track. When he does wet, does he know that it has happened? It takes time and you are only on day 3. So keep going as you are, asking frequently if he needs to wee, especially when you sense that he needs to wee (spot the wee dance, the wee facial expression). Summer is a great time to try as clothing dries quicker - handy when you are washing lots!

Thank you. Yes, when he has an accident he says uh oh and if I pick him up to take him to the potty he stops weeing. I'm especially nervous because he goes to nursery on Monday and although they are on board with it I know they won't be able to devote the time and attention to it that I am.

Pack lots of spare clothing in his nursery bag along with a bag for wet things being sent back home. Sometimes at nursery other children are also a that stage, so peer pressure works a bit to encourage them to go to the toilet but they also get engrossed in an activity and forget to go.

Personally I'd wait a bit longer. Unless you want week of washing and carrying a pouty everywhere you go.

Forgive my spelling!

Thanks for responses- just ended a completely clean and dry day (8 wees, 2 poos) so I'm going to send him to nursery and hope it keeps going well. Fingers crossed!
