3 year old boy not getting potty training

Hi
I started training my 3yr 4month old boy last week. It’s not gone particularly great. Had maybe 2 wees in potty unprompted. A few prompted ones and no poos (definitely withholding). He is happy to sit in potty but then will wet 2 minutes later. I can see he needs to go , pacing , squirming, holding. But not doing it on potty. Had 2 days at nursery nothing in potty. Wetting straight after. I have stopped today as I just couldn’t take it anymore with him wetting everywhere- on my sofa last night!
He can hold for hours and is dry at night. Just not getting it as such.
I will try again in a month or 2 but I’m so disappointed I really thought we would do it.
Any advice?

Try again in a month or so. No rush. My son also really enjoyed the Pirate Pete book about using the potty.

I will do that. I’m just getting so stressed with it which is not good for anybody. Because he is older I am conscious he is still in nappies. It’s so hard!

My two hated the potty and were much happier using the loo with a small child seat on top of it. I think they felt it was more grown up and less demeaning. They enjoyed flushing the handle and saying “Bye bye poo (or pee)!”. They were about two and a quarter years old, and got the hang of it very quickly.

He does have a seat for the loo and likes flushing and washing hands. Just not the actual pop or wee! This is what worries me - everyone else’s kids get it quickly and they are much younger!

My DD is the same. You are not alone. Difficult for me too as DS potty trained himself at 2 1/2yo. I have no clue what to do this time round!!!!

Have decided to forget it and see what happens.

Mindful bear it is definitely depends on the child. I also wonder how much truth there is when people say they get it very quickly.

We are making slow progress. Apparently my son did 2 big wees while at nursery (on the potty). He has started asking to go on it at home but not actually producing anything. I am pretty sure we will get there. I'm just not going to rush it and take the pressure off. I have always been child led with everything so feels wrong trying to force him to do something he's clearly not ready for.

I thought I'd update on things. After I posted we went back to nappies. Still tried occasionally at home and nursery still encouraging. He usually did a few wees there. We were in the garden last week late afternoon and I took his nappy off and put the potty out just in case. He sat on it straight away and did a wee. We then did a couple of days commando and hes just got it. Takes himself off to potty and does his business- amazingly even no. 2s. We added clothes (loose bottoms) after a couple of days and were out and about. 2 accidents the first day, none the next even at a friends party where I thought he'd be distracted. No accident today.
I am so happy hes got it. He is 3.5 and I definitely feel like once they're ready they will do it. I was very worried a couple of months ago but he has surprised me by just doing it!

It’s really not this big deal. Stop putting it off and stop putting so much pressure on yourself. Accidents are par for the course. So what if you have to change his pants 5 times a day for 3 weeks. Just keep offering him the potty or the toilet (mine all hated the potty but took to toilet, especially after age 3). And just keep repeating to him the process. Get him to tell you the process back. He’ll get there.

Oops! Saw update! Great!
