How long should there be accidents and how many?

Been potty training DD 2.5 years for just over a week now. Bottomless for first couple of days, then pants with baggy trousers. She needs to wear pants and can’t go commando as she attends nursery 3 days per week, they won’t allow it.

At first she struggled with pulling down clothes but that seems to be clicking in to place now and she will pull them down before going onto the potty. Sometimes she pulls them down in time, sometimes she wets her clothes as she doesn’t seem to be able to hold it. Over the last two days we’ve had 4 accidents each day. Only once she’s told us she needs to go, the rest of the time is us prompting her.

I’m posting as a lot of posts I’ve saw on here say their little one was dry or accident free after a couple of days. I’ve started to worry that my little one is still having a few accidents each day. I don’t want to stop as I’m seeing progress, just wondered if other people experienced similar?

Thank you, I just wasn’t sure if it was the norm to get it that quickly.

The potty is getting used the majority of the time and I feel like things are starting to click, but maybe I’m being naive in thinking that there will be no accidents within days.

My dd trained recently at 3 years 2 months
No accidents after the 3rd day
Been over a week accident free
But as yours is younger it could take longer

My dd potty trained just before 2. She has the occasional accident now at nearly 4.

I just came on here to ask the exact same question.

DS is 2.5 and we started training weekend before last. He will do a little wee and then ask to go to the toilet. He gets using the toilet to wee but maybe isn't that aware that it's coming. Once he's done a little wee he will hold it until we get to the toilet.

I think nursery is setting him back a bit. He will have multiple accidents there that are full wees so I think they just expect him to ask to go instead of prompting him. I think this so what's making it take longer.

I'm spending all my days off at home with him to get as much practice in as possible and hopefully he'll get it soon and start asking to go.

To update, DD has been brilliant over the last 3 days, only one accident each day. She’s also starting to ask to go rather than us prompting or taking her regularly. I’m hoping that means it’s clicking.

WhyDoesItAlways- sorry to hear that nursery is setting your son back. DDs nursery have been fab. They initially took her every 15 minutes then 30 and it’s getting to the stage where DD is telling them she needs to go. They done this on my instruction and said they were happy to do what I felt best. Have you had a chat with your son’s key worker, is going at regular intervals an option?

Hopefully that's just around the corner for us now. DS has taken himself to the toilet without prompting today which is progress. Hoping he'll start asking to go soon.

I'm speaking to his key worker tomorrow. They were really good with him last week so maybe they need a gentle reminder that he still need prompting!

For those with DC at nursery, are you able to take a week off and have DC home with you to help? I waited for holidays with my two (our childcare was term time funded at the time so easier) so they had a good solid week at home to get used to it before going elsewhere.

We were on holiday during my time off work so it wasn’t possible to dedicate a week to it. We got a run of 4 days though and nursery staff have been brilliant. DD is doing well.
