Potty training in a (almost) fully carpeted house??

How am I going to go about this? DD is almost 2 and a half, will sit on the potty and wee before a bath, and is getting annoyed in nappies (the pull up one's). She goes to nursery 3 days a week, and together we're happy to "properly" start potty training.
But how do I do this in an almost fully carpeted house? Just accept that I'm going to have to scrub the carpets? I can't keep her to the (tiny) kitchen or bathroom all day.

Following with the same predicament, DH has suggested putting the arts and crafts mat down in the living room

Wait until she’s ready. Almost 2 is young to be ready to potty train, it might be a year or more before she decides she’s ready or she might want to stop wearing nappies soon but when she decides she wants to do it the accidents will be minimal, she’ll want to be dry, understand what to do, know when she needs to go and be able to hold it until she gets there. My eldest was dry completely by day 3 just before his 3rd birthday and only had a few accidents before that point, my youngest decided he wasn’t wearing nappies any more just after he turned 3 and although he often tries to hold it rather than stop playing to go to the potty he rarely wets to the point it goes on the floor, he just leaks as he dashed to the potty although he’s getting better at going sooner now.

I used a picnic blanket with waterproof backing for mine to sit on to play on the floor, and waterproof bed mats on the sofa/in car seat. Still had some on the carpet but not as much as otherwise would have.

You might be lucky and have one who gets it straight away too

I waited until mine were completely ready, so could recognise before they needed to go and hold it long enough to get to the toilet. No accidents.
I only have some carpets but couldn’t face the thought of cleaning up the couch/floor/car seat, taking spare clothes out,etc.

Lots of people prefer to ‘train’ but it does mean cleaning up accidents so you need to decide what suits you.

Buy some good quality carpet cleaning foam and have a good supply of old towels ready to mop up accidents quickly. Then once it’s all over hire a vax for a weekend.

I stood the potty on an offcut of Lino leftover from doing the kitchen - you could probably buy a square from a carpet shop if you wanted (a discontinued sample, for instance). DS was 2 and 3/4 when we started so we had very few out and out accidents although there were certainly a few - have carpet shampoo on hand is my advice!

If you think she is ready, explain it all to her and then basically go cold turkey (apart from bedtime). Pants on in the morning, have lots of spare pants and leggings/ trousers and take her to the toilet every 15mins (we didn't bother with a potty) gradually you can make it longer between toilet trips but still frequently ask her if she needs to go.
If she has an accident, a lot of the pee will get soaked up in her trousers anyway but we had the Rug Doctor urine eliminator spray which was excellent. Then gradually she will start to tell you when she needs to go. We also put a waterproof sheet on her car seat.

Thanks everyone, some great suggestions here. DD is getting annoyed and uncomfortable in nappies, and can tell me this. Will look out for the carpet spray, and love the idea of a waterproof sheet for the car seat, really hadn't thought of that!
Once naptime is over, we'll give it a go...!
