DD is 2.9. Since the age of 6 months she has had overflow diareah. This means she can poo up to 10 times a day and it can be as runny as water and also contain undigested food (as in within an hour of eating something it can come out looking how it did on the plate!).
We are currently under a consultant and receiving treatment and she now poos 3 times a day (the first being a normal solid stool and the second two being runny/water. Nearly all contain food.). She poos in the afternoon after lunch.
She is physically showing all the signs; takes her self off to poo in her pull
Up, will tell me she’s done a poo or a wee, knows how to do it etc. But emotionally she just isn’t there!
Today I caught her trying to poo in the bath so I whipped her and explained we don’t poo in the bath and put her on the potty. She cried, said it hurt her legs. I reassured her and held her hand, wrapped her in a towel to keep her warm and explained again about poo in the bath being dirty and we’d need to run a new bath etc. Told her I really wanted her to try and she could have a special treat. And she did it! Poo on the potty! We high fived etc.
We’ve been through this several times. I can catch her and get her on the potty but she cries and seems so upset by it. I swear sometimes she withholds it too. I can see her about to poo, put her on the potty and she’ll refuse but then when I put a pull up on she poo straight away!
What do I do?! I feel like the only way to do it is to just bite the bullet and go bare bum for a day or two so she can see the mess (my poor carpet and sofa!!). She’s very switched on and quite clever so she knows she has to do this she’s just reluctant. But I think this is down to her ongoing overflow.
She also gets the worst nappy rash when the diareah is water; it’s like pure acid and she literally has burnt skin on her vagina and bum. She shakes with pain when I clean her and we have had to give calpol for the pain as she can’t walk sometimes. Potty training is needed to stop this.
What do I do?! Wait?? Go for it?? Just keep putting her on it when I can catch her?? Help me! X
