2 yo learning to use potty, husband not interested

Just a question about what's normal. My daughter is using the potty fairly often and is getting to be quite good at telling us when she needs to go.

This morning she woke us up about an hour before our normal getting-up time and asked to go to the potty. My husband told her we go in our nappies at night (he didn't want to deal with it) I took her and she did a wee.

I assume consistency is key and you should not refuse the baby's request?

So the questions are:

  1. Is it ever reasonable to refuse a potty training toddler's request for the potty?
  1. Is this a normal response from my husband? It seems counterproductive but maybe I am being oversensitive.

Love your thread title OP. It sounds like your trying to potty train them both!
DH was being lazy.

That’s one way to confuse toddler! Tell your DH to stop being lazy else it will set her back.

Your dh was being lazy and telling her to go in her nappy will just confuse the situation.
Just thought I'd mention if she's waking you up to go early morning she may be ready to night train as well. My eldest 2 dc did both at the same time

If your child says they need a wee then you take them regardless of the time.
If they start using it as a ploy to get out of going to bed etc, you take them the first time and then at regular intervals with a minor consequence for not doing anything on the potty. You still take them.

Thanks! This is in line with what I instinctively assumed.
