2yr old DS asking for nappy off

My 2 yr 2 month old DS has told me 3 times over the last week he doesn't want a nappy on. Is it too early to try to potty train him? I also have an almost 4 yr old DS who was 2.10 when he did it so was planning on waiting until about the same age! Should I just go for it?!

Not too early! I’d grab your chance and not risk him going off the idea. I know a few kids who were potty trained at 18-24 months and one who’s currently potty training (using elimination communication) at just turned 1

I’m sure more recent mums will be more help, but try it, DD potty trained herself when DD2 came along as she realised she got attention, she was 2. Try pull ups, and get him to ask when he needs the potty. If he can go a few days dry, try it, the worse that can happen is a bit of extra washing.

You have nothing to lose by giving it a go. If he can't manage it, then you can always go back to nappies on and try again later. My DS was a bit older at 2 yrs 6 months when he potty trained, but he did go from showing no signs of being ready, to getting up one day while having his nappy changed, casually walking over to the potty, and using it. He was fairly reliably dry from then on. A few months later he announced he didn't want to wear a nappy at night, and that was pretty much that.

Thanks all! I'll have a go. I had a very easy time training DS1 so was hoping for a similar experience with DS2 but I doubt it at this age!

It used to be the norm to potty train at 2 years old. My DD is 2 1/4 and is now reliably potty trained. I would not use pull up as I believe they need to know they have weed to learn what it feels like when they need to wee.

Anotherangel2 - I didn't use pull ups with DS1 for the same reason, just went straight to pants. I've always thought 2 is just quite young to potty train but perhaps it's not as uncommon as I thought.

DD2 sad no more nappies at 18 months. All done in 2 days. Dry night and day.
