Ds turned 2 not long ago. I thought we’d wait until a lot longer to potty train as friends and family said toddlers aren’t usually ready until 2 and a half. However, other friends and family are now saying he is ready because he keeps taking his nappy off.
Anyway, I bought a potty. Say him down on it one morning and told him to do a wee wee. He did after 5 mins. Did the same the next day about 4 times throughout the day and each time he went (once straight away, another time after 15 minutes). He understands it’s a good thing when he goes because he stands up and claps/shouts yay.
Today is first day nappy off. He’s managed to use the potty quite a bit but also peed all over the place. The times he has been successful I’ve had to put him on the potty first. However, there have been a lot of times that he’s just peed and not even attempted to get to the potty - sometimes he even seems to find it funny other he says oh no and points to the wet patch on the carpet.
So my question is does he sound ready to all the mumsnetters out there? I wish I had more of a natural mum instinct but I really don’t. I’m so clueless as to how to even start potty training and everyone tells me conflicting things.
