Hi. I’d really appreciate some advice about what to do next with training my little boy (2yrs2months). I’m a bit lost.

DS is physically quite big and when I tried him on a potty before bathtimes he just didn’t seem to fit! I’d have to jam his little willy in so it didn’t squirt over the side.

So we ditched the potty and went straight to toilet seat attachment.

We’ve got to the point where I’m offering him the toilet about 4 times a day. A wee always comes out. Sometimes a dribble at a push, sometimes a proper wee. He gets a sticker. He’s awfully pleased with himself. He’s in normal nappies. He is able to follow same pattern at nursery.

He can’t: pull his own shorts up or down, get up onto the toilet seat himself

He doesn’t: mention when he is weeing or pooing in nappy, not shows any signs that it is happening

Nursery want to move him on to pull ups on Thursday. How do I mirror this at home? He is a smart cookie and will understand if I explain properly but I just don’t know if he has the physical control. Maybe he need to learn by understanding what being wet feels like? And practice?

We have made nice untraumatic progress so far and I could really do with some help with keeping the momentum positive. Help much appreciated.

Pull up are just expensive nappies really. I guess they pull up and down like pants, but actually very tricky for little ones to do. Seems quite young still for potty training but why not try it. We won't feel wet in them though. We use pampers nappy pants size 6 is the biggest

Teach him how to pull his trousers up and down. He will will figure it out quickly.

Try a different potty. My tall girls the same age as your DD as no problem with the bigger Ikea one.
