My DD is 20 months and I thought she was showing signs of being ready to start potty training: pulling at her nappy, waking dry from naps and announcing when she needs to do a wee or poo.

I read Oh Crap and felt pretty prepared, got the potty in, stripped her off and keep putting her on the potty when she starts to wee..... but then she stops, mid flow. I try to keep her on the potty for a while in case she needs to relax but after a couple of minutes she gets off the potty and goes back to reading or playing. A couple of minutes later she will start to wee again, so I put her on the potty but she will stop - mid flow! This continues until eventually she has emptied her bladder on the floor..

Is she just not ready? Do I persevere?! Any advice much appreciated!

If she's been with you when you go to the loo then a potty will maybe look and feel wrong to her.

DC1 certainly realised so got a loo seat converter and was fine with it.

I wouldn't like to sit on a bucket in the front room.

Not quite ready I'd say. I'd leave the potty there for her to use if she wants but not put any pressure to use it. Try again in a couple if months.
