Hi!

Potty training with a 34 month old. LO has never shown any interest in being toilet trained, quite happy to be in a wet/dirty nappy, even to the point of bum getting sore.

However, the past 2 weeks has been a turning point. LO is naked from waist down during the day and happily tells me when needs to go. (Goes straight for the toilet rather than a potty.) Stayed clean and dry during the day, hooray!!!

Here is the problem: LO goes to bed/nap time in a pull up. When I hear him awake, up out of bed and I go into his room. He has already done a poo in his pull up, taken it off and trodden poo into carpets/ smeared it into anything in his way. Confused This has happened 3 times now.

Any advise???? Any help would be appreciated, don’t know what more I can do. Sad

Use a proper nappy and popper vest so it's difficult to remove

Use a baby monitor so u can hear as soon as he stirs and leave a potty in his room

Try to incentivise pooing on the potty/toilet. I bought my DD a special tube of smarties that only she could have, and only when she did a poo on the potty/toilet (I just gave her a couple of smarties each time).

She also enjoyed watching 'Poo goes to Pooland' (you can download it for free) and that helps hammer home the message as to where poo is meant to go.

When sitting on the potty/toilet before nap/bedtime, try singing some songs, or blowing bubbles as these use the same muscles as pooing, so if your DS needs to go, it's more likely to happen then. I got DD some Peppa Pig bubbles, again just for bathroom juice.

Doing these things, alongside the obvious which I'm sure you're already doing (plenty of fluids, fruit and veg for fibre, and lots of encouragement and praise) really helped with mine.

Good luck, hope things have improved since your post!
