My son uses the potty perfectly when he is butt naked for wees and poos (he doesn't need any reminding/prompting) but as soon as he has pants on he just wets/poos himself and doesn't tell me until he has already been. He usualy poos 2-3 times per day and they are substantial so its a horrendous mess to sort out, so I am not keen to keep trying him in pants unless it's very unlikely he is going to need a poo. He is nearly 3 years old and this has been the case for the last 2 months. We have tried various things - sticker reward chart, sweetie reward jar, song to flush away potty contents etc.
On one hand I could just say that he is not ready and come back to it in a few months. However, the problem is that he gets very agitated when he needs to do a poo and this has quite a detrimental effect on his behaviour e.g. if we are trying to leave the house and he needs to go, he will have big tantrums and I later realise that's why. He also HATES getting his nappy changed, and seems to get very frustrated when he has soiled himself. These problems are all elimanted if we keep him butt naked and he uses the potty.
Any thoughts/tips?
