Help on potty training

My DD is 26 month (just over 2) and I feel as though I'd like to start bringing the potty into play. My DS was fully potty trained before 3. Just wondering if there's any tips on when to know when they are ready and how to make it fun for them.

Making it fun - I found stickers worked well! Any characters they like, I had a load over from Christmas and they worked great!

As regards to methods, the 'oh crap!' book worked for me, simple to read and straightforward advice.

Basically make sure you devote a few days to stay at home, nappy off, look for cues they need to go and sit them on the potty. Gentle encouragement (rather than pestering!) and praise when they do it. Then when they start making progress move to leggings (commando) then pants, but go at their pace and be patient.

I found that getting some of the disposable absorbent bedsheets (Amazon do cheap ones - ones for incontinence are cheaper than 'pampers') handy and I put these by her toys, so any accidents were caught and she could see she had wee'd, so we could acknowledge it and encourage her to use the potty.

We kept the potty nearby in the lounge for day 1 but then moved it to the bathroom, that way we could go to the toilet together and she started to get used to going in the bathroom.

Best of luck!

Read the Oh Crap book. It recommends training at 20-30 months so she's a good age. There's a good structure and loads of advice about the psychology of it. Although it is a bit over the top American so ignore that bit!!
