5 yo still wets the bed

Is it normal for him to still not be dry at 5?

We limit drinks and make sure he has a wee before bed bit he still wakes up in wet pull ups DH has said he thinks it's normal and he'll be dry when he's ready but I'm not so sure

Normal. They have to have the right hormone or something, you just have to wait. Many children are still wet at night at 5yo.

My 5 year old is the same, a few dry nights then a few wet. No advice but hope someone more helpful comes along!

Not a cause for further investigation til they are over 7. Production of a hormone needs to happen in sufficient quantities to suppress urine production over night. There is a wide range of when this happens. Stick with the pull ups.

Completely normal: DS2 wasn't dry at night til he was 8, which came as a shock to me as DS1 was dry at 2!

My son isn't dry yet and he is 5 in July. It will happen when it happens! X

Yep very normal I'm afraid. DD1 dry at night at 2; DD2 at 8; DS still wet most nights age 7. We did enuresis clinic etc for DD2 from age 7 and got some good advice but ultimately they do it when their hormones are sufficient. I think family history often is relevant DH still had accidents in his early teens and did my mum. Frustratingly it's one of those things rarely discussed on the playground but I bet in a class of 30 year 1's, a third of them are not reliably dry at night.

Totally normal. But have you tried asking him to see if he can stay dry at night? My DD, also age 5, was waking with wet pull ups every day and then wanted to stop wearing them. I was reluctant to ditch the pull ups as thought she wasn't ready. So I said to her if she was dry 7 mornings in a row we could take them off. It took about 3 weeks and she did it. Since then (a few months ago) she's had 2 accidents, both when she was ill.

So, maybe try asking him if he wants to try staying dry (but keep the nappy pants on for security)? Suspect it will only work if he wants to though.

I think the stats are 10% of 5 year olds are still not dry at night. So at least 3 in every reception class.

My DD is 8 in October and has only been dry at night in the last couple of months. I was going to book in with the school nurse but then it just happened and I didn't need to. I was starting to wonder if she'd need a pull up in her teens!

Completely normal.
DS1 was 9 (and he was on hormones and had the enuresis alarm etc, but he stopped of his own accord - one night he was dry and that was that)
DS2 was 7. He was more random but it stopped completely at 7.

Reassuring stuff. DD1 is 6 1/2 and still soaked every morning. I tried a month of no pull ups at night but she was soaked every morning so we have reverted back. DS was never dry in pull ups so I just took him out of them at 5 and he was immediately dry, so it might be worth a try. I''m just reading the 'Oh Crap" potty training book for our third DC and feeling a bit of a failure about DD1.

My 11 year old, heathy, bright no additional needs still wares a pull up, they go up to 15 year olds for a reason.
We could put her on medication, but she's fine.
We except it, she is not upset by it, she still goes on camp.

As others have said - do not worry. Above all else do not let your nearest and dearest(?) try to bully you about this. We were lucky in MIL because DH had been late to be dry at night so she knew all about it but my mother was a persistent critic of us using nappies as long as a child was still wet at night. Of our 5 only one was out of nappies before they were 5, the other 3 who are dry at night varied between well over 6 and about 8. DC5 is now just 6 and still wet every night but experience with the older ones tells me it will come one day!
A paediatrician told us that if a child has a parent who was wet late they stand a greater chance of being as well - the hormone development needed seems to have a genetic basis. So to answer your question - do not worry it is entirely normal.

That's good to know, I wet the bed til around 4, DH was 8 before he was dry so it actually does seem normal bow
