Aced potty training/ using the toilet, but night times?!

3YODD has been confident in using the toilet during the day, but still sleeps with a nappy at night.
How did you all make the transition to dry nights?

DP thinks it'll come "when she's ready" but I call BS.
How will she stop using the nappy if she continues to wear one at night?!

Your Dp is right. Staying dry over night relies on the child's body to produce a hormone that supresses the production of urine during the night. What age this happens is very variable and bedtime wetting is not of note to medical professionals until the child is about 7.
Your child has no control over it so just removing nappies before they're regularly dry in the morning will just result in a lot of washing.

I took the night nappies away when they were waking up with them still dry.

I'll eat my hat then! He's actually right ;) Thank you all- was just worrying because she's been ace at using the toilet for a while now but see other people posting about dry nights ect... She's fairly regularly still wet in the morning so will stick with the nappies for now!

Your DP is bang on. You can teach her in the day but how can you teach her to do so when she’s asleep? You can’t, it takes years for her body to recognise the feeling of needing a wee at night. Like others have said, when her nappy is dry in the morning give it a go, or she may start waking up herself naturally. But this isn’t something you can train her to do. It’s like asking an adult to wake up and cook a meal from scratch which you’re still asleep (unless you’re a sleepwalker )

Child number one was still in nappies and filling them until the age of 4.5 (I think he was waking up early and having a wee..). Number 2 was dry at night very quickly after being dry during the day. Number 3 was still wet at night until he was 6.5.. it took quite some work to get him dry at night.

Get her night time Pull Ups, make sure she goes for last wee, leave the potty by her bed, remind her to go on it if she wakes up, if she's dry 4 nights in a row, you can ditch the Pull Ups.

I took night nappies away once she'd had about a month of dry nappies in the morning. DD doesn't have much to drink before bed so it happened naturally about 6 months after potty training.

Secondly, she hasn't used the potty itself for months- should I dig it back out just to pop by her bed?
The toilet isn't far from her bed anyway

I'd put the potty by her bed to remind her at first. Then you can leave the light on in the loo.
