Stressed Help

My 3 year old is not potty trained never done a poo in potty. I'm so stressed out. I have been advised to get oh crap but not got it yet! Any tips? He's never been dry over night and drinks sooooo much juice it's unreal. He does run away to do a poo and even when I realise what he's about to do I try and take him but he just stops and doesn't poo till hours later!! The thought of him starting school next year and absolutely no where near potty trained stresses me on a whole new level!!

I cant help because I feel exactly the same way as you, I just wanted you to know you're not alone and I am sure we will both get there

@DanielCraigsUnderpants I'm glad I'm not alone. It's so stressful isn't it

  1. If he's not starting school until next year, you've got AGES. My 3yo is only just toilet trained, and he starts school in September. He still can't really wipe himself and occasionally poos his pants and laughs Hmm but I'm not worried. He'll get there.
  1. Poos take way longer than wees. Just focus on wees for now.
  1. Bring dry at night has nothing to do with potty training. My perfectly toilet-trained 5yo is still in night nappies (the 3yo is dry) because the hormone hasn't kicked in yet that stops him from doing this, so don't worry about that. You have no control over that.
  1. Why are you letting him drink so much juice? Water or milk only - he may drink a lot less, but wees may become more predictable. Juice is a weekend treat or only for illness here. It's terrible for teeth and contributes to obesity.

I bought oh crap book

tomorrow is D day, or pee day

Bex1517 · 26/01/2018 21:09

@ElphabaTheGreen it's sugar free squash! Not fizzy juice!

@DanielCraigsUnderpants good luck. We've had success with doing pees and poos in potty over last few days. Only when he has no pants on. When he has pants on he sits on potty and doesn't take them down 🤦🏼‍♀️

Bex Don't put pants on then. Just loose joggers that he can't easily push down. Underwear can give them the secure feeling of a nappy so can't be confusing. Leave him commando for a few weeks until he's got it.

We started off shaky but on the whole it has gone really well. The key has for me being relaxed. I didn't follow all the advice in the book but I have taken bits on board and he's taken himself off to wee on his own accord a few times. I'm really pleased

Bex1517 · 27/01/2018 19:49

@teaandbiscuitsforme thanks for the advice Smile

I'm having the same nightmare with my 3 year old. We tried just over a year ago and he was doing well and asking to go, but we had a lot of trouble at the nursery he went to and I later found out he was assaulted by a member of staff and his behaviour and potty training went to shit (no pun intended). So we've been trying for a couple of months now and he's still not asking to go, he'll go if I ask him but just won't ask anymore. I haven't tried letting him go commando as I'm worried of the mess, or how to react to it....do I ignore it and just change and carry on....or what??
I'm also at the same time trying to train my 2 year old....he's loving it but messes constantly with his pull ups (we've had a couple of disgusting poo incidents) so I'm confused as what to do with him too. Pull ups, no pull ups? It's hell. It'd be so much easier if they came already potty trained lol! I so feel your pain OP lol xxx

@ifIwasinvisiblewaitIalreadyam oh Lordy I'm
Sorry to hear that's awful!! I've just bought a new house with new carpets and LO has peed on carpet a few times. He's using the potty every time he is bottom naked but as soon as pants on he struggles. He can't even seem to get his trousers down which enough either. He will get there but it's frustrating and I'm finding it difficult not to shout when he has an accident I keep saying he's just learning!! xxx

We were advised to avoid black currant squash when toilet training as it irritates the bladder. There is also a suggestion that other squashes have a similar effect so it might be worth cutting out different types to see if that helps.
