Holding in wee

Any words of wisdom??
Trying to potty train my 2yr 4mth old. I know she is ready, we've done all the ground work etc. We are on day 4.

The problem we have is that she has decided she doesn't like the potty (she's very stubborn) and as such is holding in her wee, for upto 4 hours. Then she's having loads of accidents once she can't hold it any longer.

How can I get her to relax on the potty?? I've tried various forms of distraction with no success, stickers, plain simple bribery! She just won't sit and relax at all. She's hovering above it and wiggling around. It's frustrating as I know we would crack it if she'd just go on the potty... Help please! Xx

My Dd was like this and tbh I gave up and waited. A few months later no issues. Makes me think maybe she's not ready

How long did you leave it before you try again?? I'm 36 weeks pregnant so if I give up now I feel like it will be a long time before I'm able to try again as potty training whilst looking after a newborn must be near impossible!

Have you tried the toilet with an insert? (Ikea if you need one). My DD did use the potty but moved onto the toilet pretty quickly because it's what we do.

And have you tried listening for the wee? That can take the pressure off a bit. And lots of her listening for your wee when you go to the loo too!

FYI I trained my DD with a 6 week old DS in the middle of a massive cluster feeding phase - it wasn't the most fun but not so bad. The worst part was over in a week. So if you do end up having to do it with a young baby, you'll be fine and you'll get through! But now would be easier IMO!

How about sitting and singing or blowing bubbles? They may distract and/or relax her so she can 'produce'

Maybe the potty is uncomfortable? Try a few versions.

It was when she was 3 so actually a little more than a couple of months in all honesty. And I didn't train her - she was ready and dry day and night straight away. Just said one day 'I don't want a nappy' and went to the toilet. She hated the potty and didn't use it at all.

It's really hard to just wait but I'm so glad I did as no training was involved. I don't know if this would work for everyone and I understand you'd rather get it done.

My little girl was the same only she could hold it for hours , 34 was her record! We had to completely stop as she wasn't weeing anywhere toilet, potty or nappy and I was worried she would make herself Ill. We tried again at the beginning of January and she got it overnight and straight to the toilet. Maybe leave it a couple of months.

Our little boy was the same holding it in, I started to worry he would give himself an infection so we stopped and tried a few more time, we are two weeks in now and he is 2years and 10 months, he just wasn't ready the other times.

He moved from the potty to a toilet training seat after a few days and he seems to find this more comfortable

Hi im new here jjst needing abit of wisdom im toilet training my son and he tells me when he needs the toilet or if he showing sjgns i pop him straight on and he goea no problems hes been in underpants all day and all week infact and just either went through 2 pairs or had 1 accjdent. But when he is with his dad he wont talk to him or tell him and holds it in til he gets home am i doing something wrong at all as feel like its juat me that has to do it

I potty trained ds when baby was only 10 weeks old. He instigated so I had to go with it, I won't lie it was very busy but we got through it. Don't try and push potty training because a new baby is coming because she could regress when baby comes for attention.
