Tips for teaching bottom wiping

DS is 4. He has been potty trained for over a year and he still can't/won't wipe his bottom. He will just about do it if i stand over him and hand him the paper. Is this normal? If he born a little earlier he would be in school by now.

Has anybody got any tips/advice? I should add this is only for poos.

Following! My DS is 3.8 and I have no idea where to start with this. Especially after reading the “do you stand or sit to wipe” thread over Christmas. It turns out DH sits but I stand. What do we teach the children?!

As someone else has raised it... how do you wipe your dc's bums? Dd (just about to turn 3) can wipe gerself after weeing but the few times she has done a poo in the potty or the toilet I can't work out the best way to wipe her. Mum said get her to bend over but then she puts her hands on the floir which would not be ideal when out. I'm stumped!

I didn't see that. It would never occur to me to do it standing. Maybe that's where I am going wrong!

Thishat when we used a potty I used to get DS to touch his toes. But once he started using a toilet I actually found it easier to do it by reaching round whilst he was still sitting on the toilet as they are smaller there is more gap. I am not sure how you are supposed to do it.

DS stands up and bends his knees into a mini squat then we wipe.

Anyone? It's driving me loopy particularly as it takes so long DS2 (18 months) comes looking for us and I have to stop him posting toys down the toilet.
