I have a 3 year old (soon to be four in February ) who simply wont or hasn't got the concept of using the pot. He was delayed in his speech and this is only recently started to come on in itself, but it still wouldn't be that 'where a text book ' says he should be, so I wasn't that worried. He has been at nursery now for over a year and they have also stressed he is starting to come on leaps and bounds. I have tried the pot several times before to no avail. I work 5 weeks on for 6 days and then have one week off so I decided to wait and start again this week and have kept him off nursery, bought visuals to help and yesterday we began.
I have a 20 min egg timer and every 20 mins we used the pot, no nappies. A lot of mess but no joy and he did get upset once towards end of the day. Today same process nappy took off first thing, same routine however by 1030 he was in pain.... I could see he needed to pee but he was holding it in, he isn't at that level where he could say mummy its sore or im hurting here, but he was nearly screaming in pain holding his pants area crying. So i put a pull up on and he didn't wee straight away either it took him a good ten minutes first.
I've spoken to health visitor again who has said after visiting nursery they feel he isn't ready yet. My question is do I leave him as last thing I want is to scare him or discourage him using the pot, he sits happily on the pot but just doesn't do anything. I have a ten year old who was dry before he was 3 so this is super frustrating and i would love some advise or ideas on what area to try next.
