Help me get ds to poo in toilet(please)

Any help would be very much appreciated. I started toilet training ds (just turned 3) about 2 months ago. He has no problem going for a wee and will tell me when he needs to go. He will not poo in the toilet. He's done it once but since then will not do it. I've tried bribery,talking to him on the toilet, giving him things to play with on the toilet and have ashamedly lost my temper once but nothing works. I feel like going back to nappies would be a huge step backwards but it's driving me mad.

He hates pooing in his pants and always says he'll do it tomorrow but never does. I'm worried that he'll become traumatised about the whole thing and there definitely seems to be a mental block. Ah!

Sorry I can't be of any help, but I have something similar with my DD (except she usually waits until she has a pull-up on at bedtime) who has been potty training for nearly 2 months now and will happily sit on the potty/toilet for wees. I've tried bribery, blowing bubbles, balloons, singing songs (which are meant to help, apparantly, but never did), reading countless books and playing with toys etc, but no joy. I've also made sure she's well hydrated and not constiipated. Like you, I don't want my child to get over anxious about it and start witholding poo, as that sounds even worse.
Does anyone out there have any advice or tips we haven't tried?

Did 2 was the same. I put her in nappies again for poos for a few days then I put her on the toilet in her nappy for a poo and then I cut a long slit in her nappy and made her sit on the loo? She pooed like this a few times and then it was easy to take the nappy off and she was fine about it.

With the slit in once they sit, it opens up and the poo goes into the toilet

I'm not sure if DD just 'clams up' when she's on the potty or toilet (even when she's wearing a pull-up), as even when she needs a poo, it just doesn't happen. Her preferred position for doing a poo is down on her hands and knees, sometimes whilst crawling backwards. I'll try her again tomorrow with a nappy on the potty or toilet, I feel like I need to be doing something!

My DS (3.5) has been weeing in the toilet for four weeks but only started pooing in the toilet a week ago.

What worked for us was my mum bought him some nice pants with dinosaurs all over (my DS loves dinosaurs) and when he put them on in the morning I said to him 'Wow look at your pants, lots of dinosaurs all over them - be careful you don't get poo on your new dinosaur pants' - didn't actually think too much of it at the time of saying it, but it bloody worked!! He hasn't pooed in his pants since!

What worked for us was an app called poo goes to poo land. He watched the little story, which is ridiculous, but it did work. It's am nhs designed app. I saw it recommended on here.

Watching this - my DD started potty training last November and is still pooing in her pants!! It's driving us nuts. She just doesn't seem to mind, whatever we do. Wees like everyone said we're fairly easy.

Ah thanks for the replies everyone. I'm going to try the nappy on the toilet thing. We tried poo goes to poo land and he loved it but it didn't work. He still talks about it. I pushed back his playgroup start date until after Halloween so I'm hoping to have it sorted before then.

I guess it's good to know it's relatively common. I'll maybe get Pooland back on my phone and try that. It's so frustrating

We had the same thing with my twin boy, he pees in toilet but refuses to poo in toilet. After trying everything i could think of i just said to him no more poo in nappy and refused to put nappy on for him to poo. It took 2 hours of visits back and forward to toilet, loads of tears but he managed to poo in toilet. He was so proud of himself that he pooed in the toilet the next day too. My advice is dont give in and put nappy back on be determine. Once they see you put a nappy back on they will expect it eacg time. I know its tough but you will get there.

I was where you are now. For a full calendar year. I think what eventually made the difference was that DD grew up a little.

She was keener on the potty than the toilet, and that tends to give a better pooing position - ideally the knees are higher than the hips.

We tried (and it was certainly trying) not to make a big deal of it. Friends were a bit stricter with their son, making him clean his dirty pants. He started withholding poo, got constipated and stretched his rectum. He's 9 now, and things still aren't right for him - he takes movicol, still gets badly constipated, and leaks poo too. You don't want to go there....

Here's something that was recommended to me.
Sit your DC on the loo and give them a beaker of water and a straw. Encourage them to blow bubbles (make a game of it)
The action of blowing bubbles uses the same muscles as pushing a poo out.

Mines 4 and still won't poo on the toilet. Ended up withholding and awful constipation. Went on for about 18 months and he is now long term on movicol. He now does a poo easily before bedtime in a nappy but goes hysterical if I try and get him on the loo. Dont know why, he is quite happy going for a wee. I've tried the apps and poo goes to pooville but didn't work. Dont really know what to do as I don't want to risk him withholding again if I try and force him. Im hoping he'll just decide one day to go on the loo 🙁 . Dont end up like we have.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the straw thing too. justgive poor wee thing. That must have been difficult . Also he mostly does it when I'm not in the room so I can't watch for signs. Might have to be his shadow for the next while.

When he is going run him to the toilet? I did this with mine. I recognised the silence, the disappearing out of the room and I just knew he was taking a sneaky poop!

I read on here about a childrens book that was a funny one about a mole (IIRC?) and various examples of animal poo so I bought it for him and he loved it and helped alleviate the problems

I'm hoping someone will know the book I mean! Honestly, she said it really helped as it made poo funny
