Nappies in the car?

How old were you children when they stopped wearing nappies in the car? My DS1 whos 6 wears one if we're traveling late and he might fall asleep but DS2 whos 4 wears one on long journeys day or night

Once mine were out of day time nappies, they were never out on again; we stopped if necessary.

shushpenfold · 26/08/2017 08:32

Put on again!

dementedpixie · 26/08/2017 08:32

When they finished potty training. Did yours train late? I never used one at age 4 and 6 tbh. I had a piddle pad thing in the car seat

AuroraFloyd · 26/08/2017 08:34

Mine stopped wearing nappies completely a month before his third birthday.

Long journeys just mean more toilet break stops.

Is there a medical reason why they still need nappies in the car?

Flitter123 · 26/08/2017 08:35

I'm not quite anti training pants things as I think they actually encourage children to go. Towels or mats in the seat are a better way to go.

Only1scoop · 26/08/2017 08:37

I didn't realise nappies just in the car was a thing?

Never worn one since loo trained.

Friolero · 26/08/2017 08:41

They stopped wearing them once toilet trained - just make sure they go to the toilet before we leave and when we stop for a break.

JigglyTuff · 26/08/2017 08:42

Same as everyone else. Once out of nappies, they stayed out of nappies

Wolfiefan · 26/08/2017 08:44

As soon as they are toilet trained. If you're worried then put a waterproof mat on the seat. Stop frequently. No need for nappies on a 6 year old just because you're in the car.

Mrscropley · 26/08/2017 08:45

Ds 3 just managed a 5 hour journey with a nap and no wee stops. .
He would have been concerned if i had suggested a nappy!!

PotteringAlong · 26/08/2017 08:46

Why would I put them back in nappies? Never once potty trained.

Ecureuil · 26/08/2017 08:46

Stopped nappies in the car the day we started potty training... at 2.4 (DD1) and 22 months (DD2). I carry a potette plus in the boot in case we need to stop anywhere for a wee.

PotteringAlong · 26/08/2017 08:47

Do you really put your 6 and 4 year olds in nappies in the car?!

SnowiestMountain · 26/08/2017 08:48

Never once toilet trained Confused

TeaBelle · 26/08/2017 08:48

We bought bed mats from wilkos and cut holes in so that it fits around the straps in the car seat for dd in case of accidents. I would put one on her if we were driving overnight as she sti had a nappy overnight (not quite 3) but wouldn't do this if she was dry at night. I must admit we haven't ventured too far yet and I'm a bit worried about needing to do lots of wee stops on the motorway etc!! I remember feeling so panicky as a child when I needed to wee out and about

Mushroomburger17 · 26/08/2017 08:50

I think this is really bizarre! If they're not dry at night and you go on night time trips then I understand, but ordinarily this is madness! We just have toilet breaks but tbh that's more for my bladder.
