My dd is 2yrs 3 months and we are entering the potty phase. This also means we now need a name for her cough vagina (that sounds way too blunt for a 2 yr old!). Nothing feels quite right, what do you all call it?

It's her vulva. Unless you are talking about the inside bit.
And yes, when she was little I was a terrible MN parent and called it her front bottom. No doubt putting her at risk of all sorts of horrors. I call it her vulva now she is older.
Call it what works for you but make sure you have the right terminology in your mind.

I'd stick with the correct language rather than euphemisms. I have 2 boys and they both call their bits penis and testicles (although 2 year old calls the latter "tickles" Hmm).

Originally we used "willy" but then I read a child protection book that strongly recommeded using the real names so we switched. They know girls have a vulva and vagina and have never batted an eyelid over any of these terms.

We call them a Fanny in this household. It's what I was brought up to call it, all my friends also used this word. My daughters are happy with this word.

Now dd1 is 6 I also call the groin region her private area. This also seems to work for us.

Kids are embarrassed and neither should you feel embarrassed. Dh is also happy to use the word Fanny.

On mn I've seen
Flower
Muff
Vagina
Vulva
Crotch
Front bum

We call it a foo. Since SRE at school the children all call it a Fagina. Grin I will introduce vulva now I think, more grown up.

MoonPower · 20/07/2017 06:17

Vagina or Fanny. Yes it's a bit 1970's sounding but much less twee than Foof, Gina, Noonoo etc..., imo Grin

DrablittleCrab · 20/07/2017 06:18

It's bits here at the moment.

n0ne · 20/07/2017 06:20

Bits, front bottom. DD is 4 now, I guess I should start using the right words Blush

DermotOLogical · 20/07/2017 06:27

Vulva is the correct term.

Vagina is a specific hole within the vulva area.

FluffyMcCloud · 20/07/2017 06:30

My daughter knows the terms vulva and vagina but calls her private parts her lady bits or just bits at the moment.

RedStripeIassie · 20/07/2017 06:34

Fanny and willy in this house but I know fanny is rude in some places. Willy will inevitably turn to dick at some point but fanny stays the same!

I've no issue saying the correct terms but it didn't occur to use them as we don't at home as adults either.

RebelRogue · 20/07/2017 06:56

Weewee here. I have told her the correct terms but that's what she's using. I can't see how anyone would NOT know what she means by that.

MollyHuaCha · 20/07/2017 07:55

'Weewee' is surely the kiddie name for urine?

00100001 · 20/07/2017 07:58

Isn't it bizarre that 1) we don't generally use the terms penis/vulva for kids and 2) boys is normally willy. But girls it seems is more embrassing? So we get all the foof, noon on, front bottom, minnie etc Confused

Lovelilies · 20/07/2017 07:58

My mum used to call mine a 'wee wee'.
Here it's bits and willies.
I've never called mine my 'vulva'. I'm a gynae nurse
