Potty 14 mo

Hi all !
I was wondering if anyone had any advice?
A thought had crossed my mind today as my DD (almost 14mo) was having a poo. We can always tell. I wondered if we should start sitting her on a potty if we can catch her quick enough? She isn't walking yet but crawls well.
Would we be confusing her as she doesn't give off the same signs for just a wee obviously ?

I wondered about this recently as my 15mo has just started saying 'poo' as she is doing a poo. But it's while it's happening rather than before so there wouldn't be time to get her on potty. Do I just wait for a sign that she's telling me before it's about to come?

Smelly praise her for telling you, but it'll be very hard to train if she's telling you after the fact.
You coudl start changing her in the bathroom now, so she links it with going to the toilet.

I don't see what harm it would do to try it occasionally, just to get her used to the idea. If she gets upset or scoots off the potty then of course leave it for a while but if she sits there quite happily then why not?

Haha it is quite cute unicorn - surprised me that she could recognise but yesterday she was having nappy off time and said 'poo' when doing a wee on the floor, so seems to her it just means movement in that area!
Thanks for the tips seahag and obsidian, will bear in mind. Like unicorn, in no rush but here is a new phase that I have no knowledge of but want to make as easy as possible by preparing the ground! While I'm at it, what are folk's thoughts on avoiding a potty altogether and going straight to toddler toilet seat? Is that wishful thinking?!!

We use both a potty and a toilet seat with DD. Trained her at 22 months. We needed the potty because she'd invariably need to go when I'd just sat down to feed DS but she prefers going on the toilet, I guess because it's what we do.

I used the Oh Crap potty training book and although she recommends training between 20 and 30 months, there's a section on training earlier if you're interested.

Mine were scared of the toilet, to a very small child it seems enormous and they worry they're going to be flushed away!
A potty is small and portable and easier for them to feel comfortable around. DD used to take it into the corner of the garden when she needed to poo

We've had a potty available to DD for months now. She's 17months and asks for it when she's about to do a poo. Born ready is a useful resource if you are interested in 'catching' as a precursor to potty training proper. We do it because we use cloth nappies and it has saved on washing.
