Is it normal for DC to become v clingy when potty training?

DS is nearly three, weeing on potty reliably for a week but not pooing yet. Only likes the potty not the big toilet. Able to hold on when out which is all really good progress. Only thing is he's become really clingy! Wants me to 'stay with him' all the time where before he would play independently. Is this normal?! Will it recede?!

our DD has been a bit like this. she managed to say something about not wanting to grow up though usually she's very keen to be a big girl so maybe they feel conflicted- anyway it's a big change for them. So I think quite normal.
