Night time dryness

Hello mums,

Thanks in anticipation of your advice! My ds is 4. Dry in the day since 2.5 but still fills a nappy with wee every night. Trouble is that it now leaks at any time from 5.30 am, the point at which he does a huge wee. This means he is awake from that point which is too soon for him (& us) & results in a tired day at school. We've tried various nappy options. Should we bite the bullet & remove nappies & hope he gets it? (feel a bit sceptical about this) or just keep plodding on until he's ready. Any advice or experience greatly accepted!

I could've written your post. Just came on to look for advice on the exact same issue! DS age 4, pull ups leaking at 5.30am, not sure what to do! Hopefully this'll bump your post and someone will come along and help us! As a short term solution we've found that if we put pampers pull up pants with a cheaper aldi pull up pants on top then it's the best combo to beat leaks!! But keep wondering whether to just go cold turkey with no nappy. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply! We've had 4 wet nights in a row, so tired all round. Just been out & bought dry nights age 3-5, so I'll report back tomorrow! I might well try your idea too.

He won't just "get it", he can't control what he does in his sleep.

How much does he drink before bed?

Nothing after 5 if possible. He has a decent drink when he gets home from school & maybe a couple sips of water with dinner. Then he has a big wee at 6 & manages another just before he gets into bed at 7.

Do you know whether he wakes up and then wees, or if he wees in his sleep?

My DS is in a similar situation and I'm suspicious that he wakes up, wees, then comes to see me. I'm thinking about going cold turkey and seeing if he gets it.

If he wees in his sleep, I'd leave it for a bit.

My DD is going to be 5 in November. If she wees she doesn't wake, so I am keeping her in pull ups until she does start to wake. If pull up is leaking I would be tempted to get something more absorbent like Pampers.

I'm not sure whether he wakes to wee or not, he is quite vague about it. I'm trying to work out which nappy is most absorbent. Stood for too long in nappy isle today trying to decide & ended up with dry nites. Pampers next if they don't work!!

That adds an extra dose of hassle! My ds has a story sat on the loo before bed - sitting there for 5 minutes seems to do the trick & has got him into the habit of a poo before bed.

My 4 year old is also the same! We found we needed the size up as a + as that means more absorbant. This has improved but not ended it

We just kept buying pull ups until DS was consistently dry at night. He had a few hiccups when we went on holiday. At 4.5 he is now reliably dry. They need the right hormones to stay dry overnight.

I'm in the same situation with dd 4.5. She is vague as to whether she wakes. I asked her if she wants to try without nappies but she said that she doesn't. I expect her still to be in nappies at 18 at this point.

My little one is no where ready at 4. He wakes at almost exactly 7 every morning, even if hes soaking wet! Hed sleep through anything that one

So a very full but contained nappy today. Hopefully dry nights work for us until he is ready to do without.

Fingers crossed it's not a one off and they keep everything in long term!

Blimey, I was about to post the same thing! My dd is three this month and utterly dependent on bedtime milk but has been daytime dry reliably for about 3-4 months.
These posts have let me relax a bit so I think I'll tackle it much later. Thanks!
