Starting DD potty training - help please!

Right so I'm not entirely sure if DD (23 months) is ready yet but she is pretty bright (PFB!) and likes to come along when I go to the toilet and is aware of when she has been in her nappy.

Timing really is due to the fact that she will be starting a new nursery in Sep (have just moved area) and we are expecting a baby at the end of Nov.

Basically this is just a cry for help/tips/advice as I really don't feel like I know what I'm doing! She is your typical stubborn 2 year old and I kinda get the feeling that mummy explaining the potty and what it's for is going in one ear and out of the other. We have had the potty as a pre-bath attempt for a few months now. I am trying the technique of no nappies and just knickers so she knows the difference...

Just had second accident of the morning (today is our first day) - first one she was a bit worried (but I reassured her), this time she just went with 'never mind mummy!'

How's it going today? This first day for us with DS1 this morning was great this afternoon not so great (3 accidents so far) I'm trying to keep my cool and am going with bribery / lots of praise when he does go on the potty. He's 2. Took DD about a week to crack it so hoping he'll be the same.

No success at all! She seemed mildly put out that she had wet pants on, but didn't seem to realise it was because she had wet them. She quite happily sat on her potty for 30 mins (!) watching peppa pig only to toddle into the garage for 2 mins and do a wee there (which i only found later). We have had a busy morning out so nappies on, but when she wakes from her nap I will try again, then again tomorrow. If no improvement I wonder if I'm just too early.
What were the signs with your DS?

Similar signs to your DD but really doesn't seem bothered about the wet pants though is enjoying the chocolate button he gets each time he is successful going to keep going and just hope it clicks. Tomorrow we will be spending most of the day in the garden which at least will give my carpets a rest.

Oh and he asked for big boy pants. His buddy at the childminders is potty training and DS just wants to do everything he does.

We've been trying again this morning but decided she really isn't ready - no recognition of doing a wee really until it's puddling around her feet! Try again in a few weeks time. Good luck with DS1!

Did a concerted try when DD was 2.1 as she seemed ready. Frequent accidents and a battle of wills by the end of 3 days. Left it. She's now 2.5 and so much easier. She'd been weeing on the loo every evening and was aware when she'd just done a wee and when she was about to do a poo. Wanted it changed immediately either way.

To be honest I believe they are likely to regress with a new sibling so might be worth waiting til Spring.

I agree I wouldn't try forcing it with a new sibling around the corner. She doesn't sound ready yet. I tried when DD was 2.10 and total disaster. Waited until 3.2 and she got it in a week (well she got wees, poos are another story!).

You will get 75 million posters telling you she's not ready, and 3 saying "it's called training for a reason". I've now trained 2 and the second one was like yours a month ago but has had no or one accident per day the last 3-4 days, and not much more the last week.

I highly recommend the book "Oh Crap Potty Training " . We tried it once and didn't get any wees in the potty, tried again a couple of months later and she did some (not all, and we had to put her on), over 3 days we saw improvement so forged ahead and a few weeks later here we are.

To start with we had to reward her for actually sitting (Peppa mainly!) but moved to rewarding her for producing and tailed that off quickly too so it wasn't a habit.
