Potty trained in house not when out

Is anyone else having good this problem my ds is potty training Ed in the house and at nursery but when I go out point blank refuses to sit on the potty.I even tried taking him to a public toilet and still refused.

What does he do? Have accidents? Hold it in?

Started holding it and if I say let's go and try and have a wee he will happily go off to the toilet with the potty and then screams and won't even attempt to go.on the potty or toilet.

And then does he have an accident, if he won't go?
Have you tried an outdoor wee behind a tree in the park or similar?

He held it for 3hrs then did a wee on the potty at home I don't know why he won't go while we are out.

It may simply be that he didn't need to go, my dd1 can hold a wee for hours.

Maybe your right Seashell, I think I was worked up about it as it was our 2nd trip out the house. I think I said it that often I think I annoyed him.

I think the thing is he's may be really good at knowing when he needs to go, better than you even. That's what happened with both of my dds and they get quite irate if I make them go in to a toilet when they don't need.
But my senses are off with this, I go to the loo quite often, it doesn't seem right that a 2 the old needs it less often.

U need to maybe be creative. My son used to sneak in a bush or wee on my car wheels!! Skills they will need for drunken nights out anyway?!?!

He maybe doesn't need to go? The longest my ds has gone is from 7am in the morning to 4pm (!!!) in the afternoon. Aged 5 he pretty much goes first thing, once in the day and once before bed. As someone who goes to the loo hourly I have only just got my head around this 3 years on. On the plus night training will probably be easy, ds has not once wet the bed.

It's funny you should say that Mrs Villiers because he's dry at night. Yes it is hard to get your head around the fact that they might not need to go as much as you. Ive still had no success when out and about but I don't ask him as much cause it's seems to irritate him when I do.So I think on my next trip out I'll let him take the lead. Thanks for all the responses

Yep I kept ds in nappies at night for 6 months (I had a new born) and they were always dry in the morning. In fact he would wake up and shout if he needed the loo. Next time you head out I'd take a change of clothes, make sure a loo is handy and see how it goes.

Dd however is not proving so easy to train which is why I am back on this forum!
