potty training tips - 3.5 DS

Hi,

We are off to France camping in half term and thought we would attempt potty training my 3.5 year old DS.

This is my second son and we are struggling with potty training. We have tried a few times but it seems like my DS is afraid of the potty and toilet! He cries when ever we mention to him to sit on the potty!

My eldest son was potty trained in a few days at 2 and he was the one who asked to wear pants and refused to wear nappies anymore. He was dry day and night within a week and a couple of accidents.

Have you got any tips that we can try when we go away? He doesn't respond to stickers or sweet bribes!!

Wow, had the exact same with my two. Ds1 trained easily and straight away. Ds2 is just not interested. Also 3.5.

I've just said that there's no more nappies (well pull ups) so it's pants all the way. He's getting better. Weirdly he's fine at night with no pull up, it's pooing that we have the problem with. Most days we have a poo accident even if he's done one on the potty at some point during the day.

If he poos his pants I make a bit of a fuss of having a shower to get him cleaned up. He isn't wild about the shower (his hair is a curly and tangled mop, so that's why he's not wild about it) so I'm hoping he'll poo in the loo/potty to avoid the untimely shower!

I notice that if I leave him on his own he'll poo his pants. But I cannot stay within reaching distance of him all day!!

So no advice apart from perhaps once you arrive say you forgot the nappies and take dozens and dozens of pairs pants and antibac wipes and go for it. Let us know how you get on!

Unless you really don't mind spending your holiday washing clothes and stressing about accidents. As you've discovered they are all different and some take longer than others.
