Help with potty training

My daughter is 3 tomorrow. She has very good bladder control but refuses to use the potty or toilet. She's done it a few times and we praised her and gave her a prize and she was really pleased with herself but then she stopped doing it and will hold her pee in for hours until she can't anymore and will go in a temper for a nappy on. What should I do with this? If she has her big girl pants on she NEVER wets herself so it's not like I can quickly put her on the potty if she starts to wee. Should I go cold turkey one day and just say no more nappies and maybe go out and wait for it to happen (obviously with a change of clothes) until she gets it? I know we will end up with a meltdown though.

My 2.5 yo dd has shown interest in using the loo for a few months but is reluctant to not have nappies on. We have taken the cold turkey approach. She is desperate to do dancing like her big cousin but needs to be dry before they will allow her to attend so using it as bribery.

Have you looked at things like bambino mio training pants? Mothercare do their own ones too. They look like knickers but have a waterproof lining to contain minor accidents and dribbles.
