Stubborn!

My 2.10 is very stubborn and strong willed. We've been taking tentative steps for over a year now, potty in a morning, before bath etc etc and she's more than happy to use the potty, kids toilet seat and an adult seat.
She can basically do it when she wants to, however she won't! If you suggest sitting on the potty she says no.
She's like this with most things, you ask / tell her to do something and she does the exact opposite
She tells me her botty hurts (a poop is coming) but even then won't sit on it.
I can't force her to sit there.

Anyone else have experience of this problem? How did you manage to get them trained?
She's due to start pre school in April and hey won't take her unless she's trained.

Bribery? Maybe reward her with a chocolate button or a sticker if she manages it?

Sorry, forgot to say, we've been doing that for a couple of months already, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

My DD is also very stubborn. She would show us that she had excellent control, then refuse to conform. We had a perfect storm of her stubbornness, the arrival of DS and she had some constipation. We got her trained for wees on the second attempt, but she was a champion stool withholder and would only poo in nappies for a very long time (18 months).
The thing that worked for wees was explaining that I wanted to help her to get it right. So I wasn't telling her what to do; we know where we need to get to: how can we work together to find a route. Difficult with a small child though!
So I am planning a much more relaxed approach with DS. (Pull ups when he's interested, no pressure, aiming at training by 4.)
As a last resort, if she is completely capable, leave it for now, and she will probably decide that she wants to be like her peers when she starts pre school.
I'm sure you are hoping for more positive posts than mine, but I think that I rushed my daughter and it backfired, so do go gently.
