constantly tugging at willy

Hello there- am desperately anxious about this! Potty training is going well for the most part, it's just that he will not stop handling his willy. He tells me it's 'too funny' and I've previously had him in a popper down vest to prevent his hands from digging in. But can't obvs do this now he is going for wees on his potty. I am so embarrassed and no one else's son seems to do it. Will he be like this forever?!?

This is completely normal. I read somewhere that it is an evolved instinct as it helps the foreskin stretch. Even if that is not true it shows that it is a universal enough phenomenum that people come up with an explanation for it. Really, all boys do it, it is not a sexual thing really: not like when they are older. I notice my boy doing it a lot now his nappy is off for potty training.

Yep my 4yo likes a good play any time he's naked too! Perfectly normal they can't seem to help themselves!

DS aged 14 months does it whenever he catches sight of it and has done since he realised it was there. Suppose it's just normal.
Once he's old enough you can explain that it's something to do in private I.e in his room and not in the supermarket!

I think all boys / men still fiddle.

I know i'm 36 and I still do, untangling, straightening, keeping warm etc.
TBF where it is isn't particularly great. It gets hot, sweaty and uncomfortable and often needs adjustment.

Plus, I woulndt mke a big deal of it OP, don't want him to develop some kind of issue around his body and such.

my son is seven he stood up the other day and i asked him do you need a wee or have you been fiddling again as it was obvious something was "up"

seriously it has got better but when he gets a toy he likes or something he has to think about fiddle fiddle fiddle

im hoping ds2 wont be such an issue

Thank you everyone! That's so reassuring and thank you for the male perspective! Potty training has since taken a nose dive to the point where I have put it away for a while. He has been spooked by something and now not even chocolate can entice him to use it! Tiddler fiddling is still his fave passtime though- today he announced 'holding my willy is the most fun!!!'
