Hi,
I just wanted to have your thoughts re potty training for my DS, 26 months. I am not worried at all, I know he is young, but things are currently a bit confusing re progress.
Just after he turned two, he started becoming interested in the potty. Sat on it naked a few nights, nothing went in, but big praise administered and sticker given each time. This went on for a few weeks, then suddenly lost interest in sitting on the potty again. However, he did start announcing weeks and poos when they either had just happened (into the nappy) or were about to happen. So he became very aware of what is happening. During his "sitting on the potty" phase, he also started examining his bits and saying "wee wee out" - so he knows what's what!
Then, hurray, two weeks ago at nursery, he asked on two subsequent days to go on the potty. Literally tugged one of the nursery workers on the arm, said "wee wee", and off they went and he duly delivered into the potty. Started becoming a bit more interested in the potty again and a few days later, we had a few successes at home as well, without pre-announcement.
Nursery said at the time that they thought he was ready for proper potty training. I set a weekend aside for this, but he became ill - just a virus, but I didn't think it was the right time.
Fast-forward to now and he is obsessed with his potty! Constantly wants to sit on it, directs me to go to the loo when he does
, would happily sit there for ages and read books... however, nothing ever goes in! Also, I work full time and in the mornings, I just need to get out of the house! However, he then gets really defensive about putting a nappy on. I feel really bad for dragging him off the potty, but we just have go to.
So... any ideas? As I said, I am not desperate, but would be grateful for any thoughts!
