What do you do about naps and by extension, the car?

DD (2.4) has decided she likes wearing knickers at home. It's been fairly hit and miss, my favourite moment was when she wee'd on the carpet while holding the potty over her head like a trophy!

So at some point I'm going to have to bite the bullet and properly potty train her, but what do you do about the car? She will fall asleep on a journey over 15mins around lunchtime, I usually plan our days around a lunchtime car ride or walk in the pushchair. Do you just put a nappy/pull up on "just in case"? I'm imagining her asking for one "just in case" every time she's a bit tired and feeling lazy if I introduce this concept!

For naps we used a nappy, for car trips we went for a wee before we set off.

We bought those thick towelling pants eg bright bots that can hold a bit of wee, and we also put a disposable change mat in the car seat
