Not sure if right place-reusable nappies?

Hiya, as mentioned in title, I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but thought perhaps people posting here would be experienced.
I'm planning on using real nappies, and have a few already, just have some questions...

1)How many do I really need?
I've just bought 3 'all-in-ones' and some fleece liners.
2)If I use the liners, will I need to change the whole nappy each time or just the liner?
3)how exactly do I clean the poo-soaked liner/nappy before putting in washing machine?

I will be using disposable nappies for the initial 2-3 weeks while we get used to having a baby, but want to move on to washable soon after. Any adive regarding this would be great!! Thanks in advance. Xx

1. I have 24 all-in-ones

2. I mostly use biodegradable liners - poos are rarely contained on them so I change the whole nappy!

3. Scrape the poo off (if necessary!) and stick them in a sealed container until wash day. I use pocket nappies and don't think you're supposed to wet pail the PUL outers so I remove the wet bamboo inners and put them in one bucket, the PUL outers go in another.

The liner isn't the bit that soaks up the wee. Yes , you need to change the whole nappy each time.

This is different to terry nappies and wraps, where the wrap is just a plasticy cover and can be reused a couple of times if not pooey.

For a newborn you can just put the whole nappy in a (dry) bucket or wetbag and then in the wash - it's water soluble till weaning. A fleece liner will keep your baby's skin nice and dry.

Post weaning, SOME poos will just plop off the fleece liner, or you can get flushable liners - in an all in one or pocket nappy I use a skinny liner and the poo normally misses, but when I use a two part fitted nappy I use a massive liner and have it sticking out of the absorbent bit of the nappy and that normally contains most of the poo.

If the poo misses the liner you can hold the nappy under the flush of your toilet. I have mixed success with this but my nappies and washing machine are both clean smelling and looking despite occasional run ins with poo!

Oh and I would try to start as soon as possible - I started after 3-4 weeks, so not from birth but it means your routines are all still up in the air so you just get used to the extra washing. My friends who left it much longer found it harder to change the way they did things.

I find reusables nice and simple, especially if you have somewhere easy to dry them.

Actually if you have all in ones you might not need fleece liners... You don't with my all in one pockets. A friend lent me some Motherease ones that I used for a while. With them the damp terry cloth was against the skin so fleece liners were a must.
